Kaseem Ryan, popularly known as Ka, died on Saturday, October 12 in New York City. Rapper, producer and firefighter was 52 when he breathed his last. The news was confirmed by the rapper's official Instagram page. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Kaseem Ryan (1972-2024), the rapper and producer known as Ka, who died unexpectedly in New York City on Oct. 12, at the age of 52," an excerpt from the post read.

A written post has been shared on Ka's Instagram handle shares the devastating news. In the post, Ka's family has requested to respect their privacy. “Born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Ka lived a life of service – to his city, to his community, and to his music. As a 20-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, he put his life on the line to protect his fellow citizens,” the Instagram post reads.

Who was Kaseem Ryan aka Ka?

Ka grew up in the Brownsville neighbourhood of Brooklyn. He initially developed an interest in hip-hop as a child in the late 1970s. His solo work has met critical acclaim and is often noted for his focused concept albums and lyricism. He was a member of Natural Elements and worked with other influential artists, including GZA and Roc Marciano. Some of his notable albums include The Night's Gambit, Descendants of Cain and Orpheus vs. the Sirens. He leaves an extraordinary legacy as a recording artist, including eleven remarkable self-released solo albums.

As a 20-year-old veteran of the NYC Fire Department, he put his life on the line to protect the citizens. During his time in NYCFD, he rose to the rank of FDNY captain and was a first responder on September 11, 2001, during the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The rapper is survived by his wife, mother and sister.
