Independence Day 2024 Sets Up North-South Clash: Stree 2, Vedaa To Thangalaan, All Releases On I-Day

Independence Day 2024 Releases: August 15 has always been an important day on the movie calendar owing to an extended holiday. Last year, OMG 2 and Gadar 2 hit the big screens together on the day. With major releases in both Hindi and regional cinema, audiences will be spoilt for choice this year as well. On Independence Day we shall witness a box office clash with not one or two but five movies releasing on the same day at the box office. With Stree 2, Thangalaan, Khel Khel Mein, Vedaa and Raghu Thata all releasing together, the Bollywood vs South juggernaut at the box office would be interesting to note.  

Bollywood brings its A-game on Independence Day

After dismal months at the box office, Bollywood is gearing up for a three-way clash on Independence Day. Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein will all hit the big screens on August 15. Apart from the national holiday, the extended festival rush of Rakshabandhan would also aid the business of the film.

Stree 2

Stree 2 is one of the most awaited films, as the audience has been eagerly waiting for this sequel after the blockbuster Stree (2018). The film stars Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, and will hit theatres on 15th August. The response to the trailer has been overwhelmingly positive and the sequel is expected to follow in the footsteps of the horror-comedy.

Khel Khel Mein 

Khel Khel Mein is a film that has been making headlines due to its extensive cast. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Aparshakti Khurana, and more. The story revolves around a group of friends who gather for a dinner and end up revealing secrets about each other. This will mark the third release for Kumar this year following Sarfira and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

Vedaa

After being postponed once, Vedaa has been in the spotlight ever since its announcement. Inspired by true events, the action flick depicts the bravery of one person challenging a draconian system in an uprising. It follows a young woman's fight for justice, guided by a man who becomes her ally. The film stars John Abraham, Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia and will hit the big screens on 15th August 2024.

Big South-Indian line up for Independence Day

The regional film industry will also put its best foot forward on the holiday. Owing to a delay in Pushpa: The Rule, which was earlier scheduled to be released on August 15, several movies have grabbed the Independence Day.

Thangalaan

Thanglaan is one of the biggest and most anticipated regional releases of the year. Produced by Studio Green, the film is based on true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). Directed by Pa. Ranjith, the film stars Chiyaan Vikram in a never-before-seen avatar along with Malavika Mohanan and Parvathy Thiruvothu in prominent roles. The film is all set to hit theatres on 15th August.

Raghu Thatha
 

Raghu Thatha is a perfect family entertainer. Produced by Hombale Films, this hilarious story follows a rebellious young woman, Kayalvizhi, who is forced to choose between principle and patriarchy. Starring Keerthy Suresh, the film is set to immerse audiences in its comic fervour on Independence Day.

Double iSmart 

Double iSmart is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language science fiction action film. The movie is directed by Puri Jagannadh and stars Ram Pothineni and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. It is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 film iSmart Shankar.
