Kalki 2898 AD In Legal Trouble, Makers Receive Notice For 'Hurting' Hindu Sentiments
Former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has sent a legal notice to Kalki 2898 AD's producer and actors for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Kalki 2898 AD has been enjoying its time at the Indian and overseas box office. The sci-fi thriller, starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, has earned Rs 1000 crore globally. However, on Saturday, the movie fell into legal trouble after former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam sent a notice to the producers and actors of Kalki 2898 AD for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. The legal notice has been sent to veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas along with others.
This film goes against what is described in our scriptures: Acharya Pramod Krishnam
As per a report in ANI, Krishmam said that India is a land of "emotions, faith, and devotion" and the values of Sanatana Dharma should not be tampered with or altered. He added that Lord Kalki Narayana is at the centre of Hindu's faith and they consider him as the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu. "Much is written about the incarnation of Kalki in the Puranas, and based on this, PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Shri Kalki Dham on February 19," he continued.
"This film goes against what is described in our scriptures. This film is hurting our religious sentiments. Therefore, we have noted some objections and are waiting for a response. Playing with the sentiments of Hindus has become a pastime for filmmakers. Saints are portrayed as demons. Freedom of expression does not mean that you can play with our faith," Krishnam continued.
The legal notice has been sent by Ujjawal Anand Sharma Advocate of the Supreme Court of India on behalf of Acharya Pramod.
What did Acharya Pramod Krishnam alleged in the notice?
In the notice, Krishmam said that Kalki 2898 AD changed the "basic concept" about Lord Kalkifrom that has been written in Hindu Puranic Scriptures. For the said reasons, the portrayal and depiction of the story of Lord Kalki is "wholly inaccurate and also blatantly disrespectful to these sacred texts, which are central to the religious beliefs and practices of a vast number of devotees, numbering in the hundreds of crores"," as per a report in ANI.
The notice added that such depiction has led to "confusion" and has the tendency to "irretrievably tarnish" the mythology and ethos of Lord Kalki in the hearts and minds of Hindus. It will lead to "misunderstanding, misinterpretation and subsequent erosion of the Hindu faith, thereby causing extreme distress to the faith and religious sentiments of Our Client, and needless to say, of the wider Hindu community at large," the notice read.
Who is Acharya Pramod Krishnam?
The former Congress leader founded the Shri Kalki Foundation in Sambhal and holds the position of Peethadhishwar at the Kalki Dham.
