The much-awaited Prabhas starrer film Salaar finally hit the theatres last week, and took the box office by storm. Particularly in Andhra states, the Prashanth Neel directorial took a humungous opening and maintained a steady momentum. Now, reports are coming in that the film has surpassed the 50 crore mark share in Andhra territory alone.
This makes Salaar only the third film to have touched the 50 crore mark in Andhra states - RRR and Baahubali 2, both of which were directed by SS Rajamouli, were the first two films to have accomplished this feat. Earlier, it was reported that the film’s distribution rights in Southern states were bought by reputed production house Mythri Movie Makers for 65 crore. Now it’s official - Salaar needs to earn another 15 crore in nett figures to become a profitable venture for its South distributors.
Meanwhile, Salaar’s business in North belt has been rather steady as well. The film opened to a figures of 15.75 crores nett in its Hindi version on day 1, and maintained a slight growth over the weekend. By the end of Day 6, Salaar’s Hindi version collections stood at ₹ 84 crore nett.
The box office expectations were very high from Salaar, considering it was the follow-up film from Prashanth Neel who had previously directed the box office chattering KGF franchise movies. And now with multiple Telugu films releasing this week, it remains to be seen how well can Salaar hold on to its audience at the box office in the New year week.
Besides Prabhas, Salaar also features notable actors like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Tinnu Anand, Sriya Reddy and Eeswari Rao in prominent roles.
