Salaar: Prabhas suggested Prashanth Neel to go for A certificate, director says 'film isn't vulgar'
Salaar director said that he was unhappy with an A certificate for the film but agreed upon the same after discussions with Baahubali star Prabhas.
Prabhas starrer Salaar has been granted an A certificate by the censor board. Talking about it, Prashanth Neel in an interview with SS Rajamouli, said that he was unhappy with the censor board's decision but agreed upon the same after discussions with the Baahubali star.
Salaar isn't vulgar: Prashanth Neel justifies violent scenes in the movie
The action-packed trailers of Salaar have hinted that there will be a lot of blood and gore in the film. Separately, director Prashanth Neel has mentioned that the movie will be focussing on the drama between the two characters, played by Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Neel also expressed his displeasure over Salaar being granted A certificate by the censor board as she stated, "I’m very disappointed because the movie isn’t vulgar; it showcases necessary violence. When I conveyed the same to Prabhas, he advised me to go for an A certificate.”
The KGF director also stated that the censor board suggested many cuts to Salaar to grant it a U/A certificate but that would have diluted the film. He mentioned that the censor board requested cuts in many scenes. While some were acceptable, removing the remaining shots would have significantly impacted the film, Neel shared.
Prashanth Neel unhappy with Salaar trailer
The KGF director also shared that how the idea of friendship that Salaar is about, did not come through in the film's two trailers. “I have tried drama with this movie. There are several characters in the film other than Prabhas and Prithviraj. Just sticking to the story and not trying unnecessary elevations or a set song coming in somewhere, to try something like that is very new for me. I thought I was not capable of doing something like that even though I told Prabhas since the start that I wanted to try pure drama. For some reason, I did not show that aspect of the film in the trailer. I failed to do that. It probably just looked like a bunch of villains and a big hero who is going to do it. This time I am nervous because I like the film. I liked the story and I that has exactly what has come out,” Neel said.
Salaar also features Shruti Haasan, Tinnu Anand, Jagapathi Babu, Easwari Rao, and Bobby Simha in key roles. It will release globally on December 22.
