Fire breaks out at slum in Delhi’s Paschim Puri area, over 200 huts gutted: LIVE updates

Massive fire broke out in a slum in Delhi's Paschim Puri area, on Wednesday morning, in which atleast 250 huts have gutted. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, however, short-circuit is being suspected as the reason behind the massive blaze.

Update at 12:00 PM: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal meets families of victims of the fire at Paschim Puri area.

Update at 7:00 AM: "We got a call around 1 am that a fire had broken out in slums. We immediately sent 20-25 fire tenders to the spot. It took us 2 hours to control the fire, a woman was injured and has been shifted to a hospital. More than 200 huts were caught in the fire," says AK Jaiswal, Fire officer.

26 water tenders have been rushed to the spot and the injured have been shifted to the hospital. The incident created commotion, people were forced to spend the night on the roads in the cold.

A fire official told news agency ANI, "It took us two to two and half hours to douse the fire, cooling operation is going on now."

A local told ANI, "Bike and vehicles have being gutted. We have to start afresh again.
