Update at 12:35 PM: Fire fighting system of the said tower was not in working condition and electric duct is not sealed at each floor level. The said tower is declared unsafe and informed DMCR to disconnect electric supply and water supply of the said tower also police were ask to book responsible persons for criminal negligence.Cause of the fire will be under investigation: Mumbai CFO

A level-3 fire broke out on the 12th floor of the Crystal Tower near Hindmata Cinema in Parel area. Around 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, as well as an ambulance and two police vehicles. People could be seen standing below the floor where the fire broke out, asking for help.
The fire was initially reported around 8:30 am on Wednesday. Smoke could be seen coming out from one of the topmost floors of the residential buildings. At that point, three fire tenders, an ambulance and a couple of police vehicles were sent to the spot. The shops in the ground floor of that building closed down.
It was a level-2 fire, and no casualties were reported..But after the smoke increased, eight further fire tenders were rushed to the spot at around 8:45 AM. With black smoke coming from the building, many people on the floors below asked for the help, waving their hands towards the firemen.
At around 9:10 AM, the fire intensified, and it was adjudged as level-3. People were reported to have been trapped, with 10 fire tenders at the spot trying their best. The firemen managed to bring down five people, out of which three were immediately sent to KEM Hospital. The other two individuals cried for help for their family, who were still stuck in the building. Soon after, more individuals were brought down and immediately transferred to ambulance.
About 45 minutes later, the fire intensified and was termed level-4. Eight people were reported to be injured due to suffocation. The smoke spread rapidly, and residents were reported to have been trapped on the staircase. Officials of the Mumbai Police and electrical mechanics also arrived.
