Apple employee death case: UP Police Officers begin online fundraising campaign to save accused police constable Prashant Chaudhary

UP Police officials have started an online funding campaign to save police constable Prashant Chaudhary, who fired the shot that killed Vivek Tiwari.

Even as there is a nationwide anger against the Yogi Adityanath administration over the death of 38 year old Apple employee Vivek Tiwari, who was shot dead by constable Prashant Chaudhary for not stopping his car, the cops in the UP police are leading an online campaign to save the accused cops. A social media post by the cops, while batting for the accused, says that "he (Prashant Chaudhary) fired the shot in self-defense to frighten the Apple employee."

“While an FIR has been lodged against Prashant Chaudhary, his only crime in the matter is that he fired the shot in self-defense to frighten the Apple executive. Today when a police constable has fired a shot to save himself, none of the other police officials is in support of him. Our only plead to you is to extend your help to save Prashant Chaudhary.” 

The social media posts, shared by one of the cops, Rohit Pal, has the bank details of the wives of constable Prashant Chaudhary and Sandeep Kumar to raise funds to save them.

Pal even posted screenshots on his Facebook handle showing a transfer of Rs 1,000 into the account of Rakhi, wife of police official Prashant Chaudhary. 

Another cop named Vishnu Chahar shared a status on Facebook that stated, 'A policeman is not an insect, whom you can crush under your feet. Police knows how to hammer as well. Brothers in Lucknow have done a courageous job'. He further went onto 'request the government to not give the police pistols and rifles, and instead give them musical instruments'.

"We will play it and sing praises for the government all day," read the post by cop Vishnu Chahar.

In an earlier statement, the accused Lucknow police constable, Prashant Chaudhary, had stated that he "did not shoot Vivek Tiwari. The bullet was shot by mistake." He further demanded for an FIR to be registered in his defense. 

Kalpana Tiwari, wife of Apple executive Vivek Tiwari has filed a FIR in the case against police constable Prashant Chaudhary and his associate Sandeep Kumar for being involved in the shooting. In the FIR, the wife of the victim has mentioned in detail about the unexpected incident as told by Sana Khan who was with the Apple employee in the car when he was shot dead.

Deceased victim Vivek Tiwari's wife met UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Monday seeking help from the UP government. Yogi Adityanath assured the victim's family for a detailed probe in the matter to solve the case.
