BMW hits multiple vehicles, two pedestrians injured

Mumbai Police has arrested a man for rash driving after his BMW car collided with multiple vehicles and injured two people in Mumbai late on September 29 night.

Mumbai Police has arrested a man for rash driving after his BMW car collided with multiple vehicles and injured two people in the city on the night of September 29.  

The driver of the BMW, Mehmood Alam was arrested by police after a 4-km chase. He was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place between Reay Road area and Kidwai Road.  

According to Police officials, "Mehmood is a driver and the owner of the car had left for Dubai on Friday. We caught him (accused) after chasing him for four kilometers. We arrested him for rash driving which collided with multiple vehicles and injured two pedestrians on late Saturday night. The injured have been rushed to the hospital and action will be initiated against the accused. On getting information about the accident at 12:30 am, immediately we sent an interceptor vehicle that soon managed to tail the BMW sedan but could not quite catch up as the powerful car was speeding. Some motorists who had seen the car hit the pedestrians joined us in the chase."

One of the locals who witnessed the incident said, "We saw a BMW in an inebriated condition which damaged multiple other vehicles. The driver of the sedan was under the influence of alcohol. His rash driving injured two pedestrians, later admitted to nearby hospital. We are cooperating with police in their inquiry."

With further information, officials said, "The BMW sedan sprinted at a very high speed for 4 km before it was cornered. The motorists who have been chasing the car managed to pull out the driver and some locals who were at the spot beat him up before he was handed over to the police. The locals also broke the car's windshield and dented the BMW sedan with blows using heavy sticks."

The police stated they are taking statements of eyewitnesses and a complaint will be filed. The accused, Mehmood Alam has been taken into police custody. Police has promised to take strict action against Mehmood Alam. The eyewitness accounts are being taken to build a watertight case.
