Maharashtra Floods: Sangli faces massive deluge, residents forced into makeshift measures

Heavy rains lashed parts of Maharashtra over the week resulting in significant flooding in many areas. Republic TV visited Kasbe Digraj village of Sangli District which has been inundated with water for the last four days.

Heavy rains lashed parts of Maharashtra over the week resulting in significant flooding in many areas. Republic TV visited Kasbe Digraj village of Sangli District which has been inundated with water for the last four days. 

The extent of the flooding is such that the residents have made a boat out of a tube in a bid to assist the people stuck in waist-deep water.

"It's flooded since Sunday and water level and been rising. Today, the whole village is submerged," one of them said to Republic.

The Kasbe Digraj dwellers have had to take shelter in temples because their homes are submerged. They have requested the government to assist them with food, medicines and temporary shelter. Even so, the NDRF has been conducting rescue and relief operations in some parts of Sangli District:

According to reports from Skymet, the southern areas in Maharashtra such as Kolhapur, Satara, and Sangli observe even leaner weather activities, with monthly rainfall averages of 209 mm, 172 mm and 89 mm respectively. As per reports, Satara and Sangli and observed more than 100 mm of rainfall. In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday. The monthly average rainfall of Satara is 172 mm while Sangli witnesses a normal of 89 mm.
