Massive monolithic statue of Lord Vishnu reaches Bengaluru temple

A massive monolithic statue of Vishwaroopa Mahavishnu, weighing 300-tonne, was brought to a temple in Viveknagar area of Bengaluru on Tuesday. The statue, which is 64 feet tall, will be installed in the premises of Kothandaramaswamy temple in Bengaluru.

A massive monolithic statue of Vishwaroopa Mahavishnu, weighing 300-tonne, was brought to a temple in Viveknagar area of Bengaluru on Tuesday. The statue, which is 64 feet tall, will be installed in the premises of Kothandaramaswamy temple in Bengaluru.

Upon the arrival of the statue on a large truck, a large number of people gathered at the spot to get a glimpse and to offer their prayers. The installation ceremony had people not only from Bengaluru but also from Tamil Nadu; since the statue was transported from there to Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters, Shanti, one of the devotees visiting the location, said, "I am very fortunate to visit this temple and see this huge statue of Lord Mahavishnu. I had a fantastic look at the deity. It's very huge. I felt very happy after visiting here."

A local resident involved with the project said, "We feel proud and happy. Once upon a time, no one knew this area but now everyone will know this village. The statue was transported from Tamil Nadu to our place in Karnataka".

Asserting that it will take time to install the statue, he added, "It took almost 7 to 8 months to transport this statue. Many people worked hard and local residents from Tamil Nadu also supported the cause. Presently, the height of the statue is 64-65 feet and the width is about 26 feet. The installation and project completion will take 2 to 3 years. After completion of the project, the height will be 108 feet."

The MLA of  Shanthinagar, Karnataka, N A Haris was also present during the installation ceremony of the statue.

With the installation of the statue the residents of Veviknagar are hopeful that finally their village will get the recognition it deserves and perhaps even transition into a tourist spot in the near future.
