The Bihar government on Thursday issued an order prohibiting officials from carrying mobile phones to high-level meetings. In a letter issued by the Ministry of Personnel Government of Bihar on October 4, 2018, the senior IAS officers have been strictly instructed to follow the new rule.

This move comes after Bihar Chief Minister observed that many senior officers were busy on their mobile phones during an on-going meeting with the Finance Commission. Recently, the Chairman and the members of the 15th Finance Commission visited Bihar and a meeting was convened which included the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Ministers and Secretaries of all departments of the government of Bihar. As per sources, the Bihar CM was making a presentation for the state to get a special category status. The sight of officials not being attentive and instead of being occupied on mobile phones did not go well with the CM.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of General Administration Department, Aamir Subhani, issued the order that directed the following:

The directive clearly observes that officials are busy with their mobile phones during high-level meetings which causes hindrance in the decision making.

The copy of the letter has been marked to all the secretaries of various departments in Bihar.
