As the number of accidents that occur on the railway tracks has always been a cause of great concern, the Western Railways in Mumbai have up come with a unique way to create awareness amongst the passengers by introducing a Yamraj on the tracks. The unique campaign was conducted at the Andheri, Malad, Mahim, Dadar and other stations of western railway. These kinds of accidents usually occur when the commuters in a hurry to catch the train cross the tracks without using the foot over bridges. Sometimes, the passengers do it to get on to another platform. Although a few people get lucky after crossing the tracks it is a fatal practice to do so as the train can anytime run over a person.

Yamraj's punishment on crossing tracks

To prevent this from happening a man named Swapnil dressed as Yamraj - a character from Hindu mythology, who is also the god of death, chased the commuters crossing the tracks. Swapnil, while he was in his character grabbed the people and said, “I will take the people who cross tracks to hell”. After he caught hold of few people Swapnil continued his evil laughter by saying, “Yam hai hum”. This unique campaign was carried out with the help of Western Railways and Swapnil in the Mumbai city. The western railway in a tweet said, “This Yamraj keeps an eye on people and saves lives! As part of the campaign being run by @rpfwrbct (Western Railways) to make people aware of the dangers of crossing the tracks, they are being encouraged to use the bridge/subway to prevent passengers from crossing the tracks.”

In Mumbai, people are being made aware through the character of 'Yamraj' by RPF in association with RPF”.
