In a major gaffe, the organisers of the National Sports Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh mistook legendary athlete PT Usha for tennis superstar Sania Mirza. In a poster that has gone viral on social media, the organisers have put the picture of Sania Mirza with the name of field athlete PT Usha. The event was going to take place on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day. The poster barring Sania Mirza's picture with PT Usha's name, along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's face, was put out outside Submarine museum on Beach Road leaving the Andhra Pradesh officials red-faced. 

Visakhapatnam district sports authorities had put up several flexes with the pictures of Andhra Pradesh CM and state Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao across the area. The officials had put up the posters aiming to promote the Andhra Pradesh government’s initiative "YSR Kreeda Protasahakalu".

Earlier, AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced cash awards for sportspersons who won medals at the national level in the name of 'YSR Kreeda Protasahakalu'. The flex erected by the officials of the state had put Sania Mirza under the category of 'Tennis', however, the name printed was PT Usha with 'Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Arjuna Award’. As soon as the pictures of the blunder went viral, the posters were removed by the authorities later.

PM Modi launches Fit India Programme

On Thursday, PM Narendra Modi launched the 'Fit India Movement'. Addressing the gathering at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi, he said that health consciousness is the key to good health. He urged all to make it a mass movement similar to that of Swaach Bharat Mission. At a colourful ceremony, which included a presentation of India's indigenous martial art forms, dances and sports, the Prime Minister said that technology has contributed to a sedentary lifestyle but fitness has been an integral part of India's culture. He added that the initiative is the need of the hour and will take the country towards a healthier future.
