The Khar police on Thursday arrested the drive of Podar International School bus after he rammed into a BMW. During the police investigation, it was found that the driver was using a bamboo stick in place of a gear.

As per the information from the police, the incident happened on Thursday morning when the 22-year-old driver was on his way to the school in Khar. The bus collided with the car a car that belonged to a Khar-based Businessman. The businessman immediately caught hold of the driver and asked for an explanation. Putting the entire blame on the steering wheel of the bus, the driver tried to shrug off the incident.

The car owner checked the gear shaft and noticed a piece of bamboo being used as a gear shift. Immediately, the car owner informed the police which rushed to the spot to examine the incident.
Finding a bamboo in place of a gear stick, the police inquired about the matter. The driver informed the officers that since the past 2-3 days he was using the bamboo as a replacement after the gear stick broke.
The school authorities and the transport committee said that they are investigating the matter.
The school released a statement and expressed shock. It stated that the authorities were shocked to learn that the driver was using a bamboo. The school further stated that the kids in the bus are safe and sound and that the school administration will provide all assistance to the police in the matter.
Meanwhile, the police had detained the driver and an FIR was launched against him. The driver was booked under article 279 (for rash driving on a public way), however, he was granted bail. The officials had also seized the bus.
