Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will on Thursday present the current NDA government's fifth and arguably his toughest Budget yet as he seeks to address agriculture distress, create jobs and boost growth while at the same time, stick to fiscal prudence in Union Budget 2018.
Union Budget 2018-19 will be India's first budget post Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation and is being keenly watched to see what Jaitley does to boost growth in Asia's third-largest economy. It would be the last full Budget of the BJP-led NDA government before the 2019 general elections.
Ahead of Budget 2018, Sumit Sawhney, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renault India, spoke exclusively to Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and shared his take on what he expects from the budget.
Sumit Sawhney has been the MD and CEO of Renault India since January 2014. Sawhney was also the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at General Motors India. He also worked at Fiat India for two years. He is an MBA from IMS Indore.
While speaking on Republic TV, Sumit Sawhney said:
“We look forward to easing out GST rates. We need the budget to help improve automotive sector. Automotive sector must be given its due. Concrete steps must be taken in this budget.”
