As Urjit Patel resigns from RBI, Opposition attacks Modi government

The massive announcement of Urjit Patel to step down as the RBI Governor has sent ripples down the Indian politics and economics, with reactions flooding in on Twitter from the Opposition parties. 

In a statement, Urjit Patel cited personal reasons for his decision to depart from the chair of RBI Governor- 

Although the statement does not mention an impasse with the government, the resignation of the RBI Governor has garnered reactions from Opposition parties, accusing the Central government of this decision. 

The official handle of Congress has called his decision 'result of our 'chowkidar's' assault on democratic institutions', drawing an attack on the Central government for this decision. 
 

The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee too held the same belief, and attacked the Modi government in a statement saying, "From CBI to RBI, institutions have become total disasters; it is a matter of great shock."

Former Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram has directed an attack on the BJP government in a tweet. In the tweet, he mentioned that "no self-respecting scholar or academic can work in this government." He further notified how he's "saddened but not surprised" by the decision. 

Congress MP Ahmed Patel too joined the bandwagon, calling this decision "a blot on India's monetary and banking system." He further added how "The country’s reputation and credibility is now at stake."

Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal claimed that Patel's decision to step down as the Governor of RBI was because "he refused to allow the Modi government to plunder 3 lakh crore rupees of RBI reserves."
 

Former Cabinet Minister pointed out that after the Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian, its Urjit Patel and that "nobody wants to be associated with the economic mess Shri Modi and BJP have put the country in."
