BIG COMPARISON: PM Modi contrasts 16th Lok Sabha with 15th and lower house with upper house over productivity, draws stinging conclusion about dynastic parties

PM Modi on Wednesday launched a stinging attack on the Congress party via a post published on his website narendramodi.in, making a case against the grand old party's doings across generations and how this culminated in the events of 2014 when he puts forth that "India voted to shed the baggage of the past in pursuit of a better future".

"Honesty over dynasty.

Development over decay.

Security over stagnation.

Opportunities over obstacles.

Vikas over vote-bank politics", is what the Prime Minister said the people of India voted for in 2014, going on to elaborate on various significant avenues where the institutions had taken a beating in the past because of 'dynastic politics being powerful'.

The first avenue where the Prime Minister extolled his government's productivity was in the temple of India's democracy - Parliament. Here's what he wrote:

"The overall productivity of the 16th Lok Sabha was a phenomenal 85%, which is significantly higher than the productivity of the 15th Lok Sabha.

Between 2014 and 2019, the Rajya Sabha’s productivity was 68%.

The Interim Budget session witnessed productivity of 89% in the Lok Sabha and a mere 8% in the Rajya Sabha.

The nation knows the numerical dynamics of both houses. It is clear that when a non-dynasty party in higher number its tendency to work more is visible.

India should ask- why was the Rajya Sabha not working as productively as the Lok Sabha? Which were the forces disrupting the House and why?"

The numerical dynamics that PM Modi alluded to refers to how the NDA is in majority in the Lok Sabha but not in the Rajya Sabha - the implication being that the upper house had faced disruption and low-productivity as "It is clear that when a non-dynasty party in higher number its tendency to work more is visible."

This is evidenced by the fact that a number of bills that hav been passed by the Lok Sabha have been stalled in the Rajya Sabha, the GST constitutional amendment and the Triple Talaq bill being prime examples.

The Prime Minister also listed other such areas, including the Constitution and the Courts, government bodies, the Armed forces and more.
