Update: Digambar Kamat has denied he had gone to Delhi to join the BJP.  Below is his statement:

"News about my entry in BJP is being planted by vested interests, it is bogus. I will return to Goa tonight and attend the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Monday. I had gone to Delhi for personal work."

The cracks in Goa Congress seem to have widened as there are speculations that Senior Congress leader Digambar Kamat is likely to join the ruling BJP.

The speculations began since the time he left for New Delhi on Sunday. However, the former chief minister has currently denied any such move. Kamat was second in command in the BJP till 2005 when he switched over to the Congress.

As per sources, several prominent leaders of Goa Congress leaders will join the BJP.

Kamat, who held reigns of the state from 2007 to 2012, left for Delhi on Sunday. "I am leaving for Delhi on a business trip. It is purely personal," Kamat said before boarding the flight to Delhi from the Goa airport.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar accused the BJP of spreading rumours about Kamat. "This is a game plan of the BJP's dirty tricks department which is spreading rumours to malign the image of Kamat and the Congress," he said.

Chodankar also alleged that the BJP was trying to scare its own alliance partners with such speculations. "Kamat is very much in the Congress and he will continue with the party," he added.

Goa BJP president Vinay Tendulkar spoke to Republic TV:

"Congress is daydreaming. When they had 17 candidates, they failed to claim a majority, now they have only 14 leaders, it is very difficult for them to win the polls. We have 21 candidates.

"We conducted the core committee meeting on Sunday to decide Lok Sabha candidates. Not only Digambar Kamat, but we welcome everyone in BJP."

"Last evening, at BJP MLAs meeting, a discussion was held over Digambar Kamat joining BJP. The decision on whether he will be the CM will be taken by the central leadership," he said.
