With the all-important Lok Sabha elections right around the corner, India will once again celebrate the biggest festival of democracy in the world with an estimated 900 million citizens expected to exercise their right to vote and elect their preferred representative into the lower house of India's Parliament. However, ahead of this crucial period of elections, an explosive sting conducted by Republic Bharat has captured the threat that is posed to India's flourishing democracy by the very same people who are charged with safeguarding it and representing the masses.

Republic Bharat's 'Operation Bikau Sansad' has captured three sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) from three different parties making a mockery of democratic franchise and betraying the faith reposed in them by their voters, all for personal, political or pecuniary gain or 'invest now benefit later' favours.

In the second of three on-camera investigations, Republic Bharat exposes Congress Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Santokh Singh Chaudhary, who openly accepts 'investments' citing elections despite mentioning how the 'risk' has increased since demonetisation.

He also revealed that no politician is ready to take a risk as the process of procurement has become digital as compared to previous systems of contracts which made the money transaction easy.

"(Yeh contract vaghera jo hai, yeh sare ho gaye hai digital. Yeh online hogaye hai sab. Toh isme koi bhi risk nahi lena chahta. Yeh risky ho gaya hai kaam). Listen to me, these contracts and all, the process of procurement has become digital, which is why no one wants to take a risk. This has become risky now. As compared to the previous system of contracts, it's extremely tough now. The money flow has stopped."

Unaware of the hidden cameras, the MP reveals that those who have illegal avenues of income have the money, however, the political class is left with nothing after the policy of demonetisation was introduced by Prime Minister Modi.

"Just because of this single move of demonetisation, no one has any cash. Those who have multiple illegal avenues of income, they must be having money. Smuggling gangs, those who deal in drugs, they have money. Those who have accumulated it over the years, they are finished".

However, throwing his own caution to the winds, the sitting MP goes on to accept the deal offered by Republic Bharat's reporter and justifies it saying "it is election so it's fine", calling it an 'investment'.

"Okay, it is fine in elections. Yes, those are investments only".
