With weeks to go for the much-awaited Lok Sabha polls, it seems the Congress party is set to field a new candidate, someone who for them till very recently was only a private citizen -- Robert Vadra.
Speculation has been rife about Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law's entry into politics, with Vadra himself suggesting on more than just one occasion that he may follow his wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra into the field.
While official confirmation is awaited, the Youth Congress party workers seem certain that they want Robert Vadra to represent them in the upcoming polls, so much so that they have coined a slogan for him.
Posters can be seen near the Kaushambi metro station in the National Capital Region (NCR), in which there is demand to bring Vadra as the party's face in the public forum. "Ghaziabad kare pukaar, Robert Vadra abki baar (Ghaziabad demands, Robert Vadra this time around)," read the poster.
Just over a week ago, similar posters were put up in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad welcoming Robert Vadra to fight from the constituency. 'Robert Vadraji, you are welcome to contest from the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat', read the posters credited to the Moradabad Youth Congress.
Since the turn of the year, Robert Vadra has given a number of indications that he is ready to enter the political arena. Earlier last month, he had given a cryptic statement about if and when he would join politics.
"I need to absolve from baseless accusations and all allegations through ED. But yes all in time!! Will start working on it ... but no hurry, have to earn it and people need to feel that I can make a change ... all in time", he said in the statement.
Prior to that, he spoke about how he had given so much for Uttar Pradesh while hinting he might end up contesting from the state.
His wife, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had herself plunged into politics only this year. She was appointed by the Congress as the General Secreatary for Uttar Pradesh (East).
