Devendra Fadnavis claims 15 independent MLAs ready to join BJP

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed that as many as 15 elected independent MLAs are ready to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and most of them are BJP and Shiv Sena rebels. "15 independent MLAs have contacted me and they are ready to come with us. Others may also come but these 15 will surely come with us. Most of them are BJP or Shiv Sena rebels," said Fadnavis. He also expressed his gratitude towards the voters of Maharashtra for the mandate.

"We are going to go ahead according to what has been decided between Shiv Sena and us (BJP). What has been decided is something which you will get to know when the time is right. I would like to thank the people of Maharashtra for giving a very clear and decisive mandate," Fadnavis added.

"Two results are shocking for us - by-poll for Satara Lok Sabha constituency and Parli Assembly constituency. Our six ministers have lost, we will soon start finding out the reasons tomorrow onward. Today is the day to celebrate our victory. We will form a strong government in Maharashtra for the next five years," said Fadnavis, who won his re-election from Nagpur South West constituency.

"This is true that this time we have won fewer seats as compared to the last polls but last time, BJP had contested on 260 seats in Maharashtra and we did win 122 seats. This time we have contested on 150 seats. Last time our strike rate was around 47% and this time our strike rate is 70%," said Fadnavis.

As per the latest tally released by the Election Commission, the BJP has won 97 seats and is leading on eight in Maharashtra. The party also secured a vote share of 25.75%, highest among other parties. On the other hand, ally Shiv Sena has won 56 seats with a vote share of 16.40%.
