Dinesh Gundu Rao: 'All turncoats who joined BJP have lost'

KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday has claimed that nearly all the turncoats who have left the party and joined the BJP have lost in the polls.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday, October 24, claimed nearly all the turncoats who deserted the party and joined the BJP have lost in the polls. Taking to Twitter, Rao stated that his party will win all the 17 seats and "throw out the BJP government". According to reports, he further asserted that the rebel MLAs in Karnataka will also be facing a similar electoral fate.

By-poll elections

According to the election commission data at 6 pm, Alpesh Takor who recently joined the BJP lost his seat in the Radhanpur constituency in Gujarat with 73,603 votes, while his Opposition from Congress Desai Raghubhai Merajbhai secured 77,327 votes. Just a few days before the Gujarat by-poll elections, Thakor quit the Congress party and joined the ruling party BJP. Further, Udyanraje Bhosale who had quit the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and joined the BJP lost as he secured 5,41,180 votes against his opposition Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil from the NCP who secured 6,18,208 votes in the Parliamentary constituency bye-elections in Satara, Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the BJP has secured its mark by winning the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections on Thursday, October 24.

Maharashtra Assembly elections

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, the 'Mahayuti' alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and smaller parties are up against the 'Maha-agadhi' led by the Congress and the National Congress Party (NCP). In the 288-member Assembly, the BJP is contesting for 164 seats, which includes candidates of smaller allies. On the other hand, the Shiv Sena has fielded 126 candidates. However, a 50:50 formula was approved on Thursday with both the parties fielding 144 seats each. The Congress has candidates in 147 constituencies, and NCP has 121 seats. The current term of the Maharashtra Assembly, in which the BJP and Shiv Sena are in majority, will come to an end on November 9. The BJP has won and secured its mark in Maharashtra. At the time of publishing, according to data from the EC website, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance bagged 92 and 54 seats each, while the Congress-NCP alliance secured 35 and 49 seats each.

Harayana Assembly elections

In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting against the opposition Congress and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). The current term for Haryana's Assembly will come to an end on November 2. Further, out of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the state, 17 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 73 seats fall under the General category. Earlier in 2014, the Haryana Assembly polls were won by the BJP and Manohar Lal Khattar was chosen as the new CM, replacing Congress' BS Hooda. The BJP had won 47 seats out of the total 90. With this number, the BJP was able to form a government on its own in Haryana. The party had also won the Jind by-polls earlier this year, taking its total strength in the state assembly to 48 seats. The BJP has won and secured its mark in Haryana, with a close fight with the Congress. At the time of publishing, the BJP has won 39 seats and the Congress has 31 seats.
