Bollywood actor Sunny Deol on Tuesday afternoon announced that he will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The actor was given the ticket in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi at the BJP headquarters. Deol, as per sources, is likely to contest from Gurdaspur in Punjab for the Lok Sabha elections.
Sunny Deol's classic film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha''s director Anil Sharma was among the first ones to congratulate the actor. He took reference from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech when he said '56-inch ka seena' and wrote: "56 inch ka Seena toh tha ab 62 inch ka bhi aa gaya .. congratulations my favourite @iamsunnydeol for joining #BJP" [sic]
Anil Sharma has directed Sunny Deol in films like 'Apne', 'The Hero: Love Story of Spy' and 'Singh Saab The Great'.
Sunny Deol too wrote on his Twitter: "Thanks a lot @BJP4India @narendramodi ji @AmitShah ji @Ramlal ji @PiyushGoyal ji @nsitharaman ji @CaptAbhimanyu ji @amitmalviya ji for this warm welcome." [sic]
The actor who was poised during his official induction into BJP, broke into a smile when he was asked to give a "dhai kilo ka speech"and said.
"The way my father had worked wih A B Vajpayee, I am here to work with Modi ji. He has done a lot for the country.The way has brought us ahead, we need to continue moving forward even today. Because the struggle we are facing we need people like Modi ji. I won't speak much , I will allow my work to do the talking."
