Haryana Exit Poll: BJP's Anil Vij projected to retain Ambala Cantt

Haryana Minister and incumbent MLA Anil Vij is expected to win the Ambala Cantonment seat, as per the Exit poll conducted by Republic-Jan Ki Baat on Monday

On Monday, the voting in the Haryana Assembly elections concluded. In association with Republic, Jan Ki Baat has conducted an Exit Poll on Monday, surveying 40,000 people in Haryana. It has been done using Probability Map Of Outcome model (PMOO) which is backed by issue wise location matrix. The sample is geo-strategically selected through purposive sampling. The data was collected through a network of verified field investigators and data analysts. It was a ground-based scientific exercise covering every Assembly seat. Caste and demography factors were taken into consideration while selecting the sample.

The Ambala Cantonment constituency

Anil Vij, who has been a long-time winning Member of Legislative Assembly from the Ambala Cantonment seat, is expected to repeat his victory run, as per the Exit poll conducted by Republic- Jan Ki Baat. Since 1996, he only lost once in 2005 by 615 votes when he contested as an Independent candidate. Subsequently, he won both in 2009 and 2014 defeating the Congress candidates in the constituency. His competitors are Rajesh Kumar from the Bahujan Samaj Party and Venu Singla from Congress.

JJP to gain at the expense of INLD

According to the Republic- Jan Ki Baat Exit poll, the BJP is likely to surpass its 2014 performance of 47 seats. It can get anywhere between 52 to 63 seats. Moreover, there is also a prediction of BJP achieving a voteshare of 56%. On the other hand, Congress is set to gain approximately 15 to 19 seats. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is the worst hit due to the formation of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). It is tally can go down to just 1 seat. In contrast, JJP can receive a high voteshare, gaining nearly 5 to 9 seats in the process. Furthermore, others including Independents and smaller parties are expected to secure 7 to 9 seats.

Latest voting percentage

BJP successfully formed its government in Haryana for the first time in 2014 under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The party has been on a roll in Haryana winning all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.  Overall, 0.38 lakh ballot units, 0.25 lakh control units, and 0.27 lakh VVPATs were used in the Assembly polls. As per the latest figures released by the Election Commission of India, the state registered a voting percentage of 63.55%.
