Here are Arvind Kejriwal's "two major reasons" why the people of Delhi rejected the AAP in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls

Following to the clean-sweep in Delhi by the BJP by winning all seven Lok Sabha 2019 seats, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to his volunteers reasoning for the party's loss.  

In the letter, he specified two significant reasons for the failure of his party in the Lok Sabha elections. 

He said, "Across the country, people acknowledged that our candidates were among the best. The results, however, didn't meet our expectations. Post elections ground analysis has revealed two major reasons." 

Firstly, he stated that the 'atmosphere that prevailed in the country rubbed off on Delhi as well,' however the chief minister of the national capital did not elaborate on the same. Secondly, he claimed that people saw this "big election" only between PM Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, thus voted accordingly.

Furthermore, he admitted that the party failed to explain it to the voters as to why they should vote for AAP in the 'big election.' He added that people will vote for the party in the Assembly Election that will be held in the union territory next year. 

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on May 26 motivated party workers to not get disheartened by their crushing defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and said "they should now look forward to the Delhi Assembly elections," which are slated to take place next year.

Kejriwal said he is confident of getting more than 54 per cent vote share which AAP received in the last Delhi Assembly elections when it won 67 out of 70 seats.

"People gave votes based on PM face thinking it was a national election and not one for AAP. But now it is time to go to them saying this here is the state election now and we must vote not on a name but on the basis of work done," Kejriwal said.

He urged the AAP volunteers to go to the "people of Delhi and ask them if Delhi had elected a BJP state government four years ago, would schools have been transformed, would mohalla clinics have been made, would doorstep delivery be started?"

There was a triangular contest between BJP's Gautam Gambhir, Congress's Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP's Atishi Marlena in Delhi.

BJP's Gautam Gambhir defeated AAP's Atishi Marlena by a margin of 391222 votes
