Former Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) CM Mehbooba Mufti has dismissed speculations that her party might join hands with the Congress party and fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together, though, has left the doors opened for a future alliance.

Speaking to media, the PDP chief suggested that she and her party are presently concentrating on fighting in all the six seats alone, and that rumors of an understanding with Congress is untrue.

"There have been no talks (with Congress). All these are rumors, speculations, and no talks have taken place.....It will be too early to speculate (on alliance with Congress). We understand when the situation comes then we will see. Right now, we are focused on putting our candidates on all of the six seats. So all those talks are totally false right now," she said.

The very fact that Mehbooba Mufti is somewhat considering an alliance with the Congress shows how far her party has come from 2015. In the previous state elections, after PDP had won 28 seats and was the single-largest party, Mufti had joined hands with the BJP to form government.

There have been reports making rounds that the National Conference (NC) may well join hands with the Congress to fight in J&K. Though, the PDP chief seems least concerned about how things go between those two parties.

"It is their internal matter, how they would like to form an alliance. It is between the NC and Congres," Mehbooba Mufti added.

Talks between NC and Congress have hit roadblock over seat-sharing, particularly relating to the constituencies in Kashmir. Omar Abdullah, just a couple of days back, stated that his party is ready to form an alliance with the grand old party, but would be unwilling to pay heed to its demands.

"In Kashmir, there will only be NC candidates National Conference candidates in all three states. There will be no compromise. If that suits Congress then we can take it further else no. But there is no way we will compromise in those 3 seats," the former J&K CM had said while addressing the media.
