In a tremendous blow for the Congress, the party's former secretary and spokesperson Tom Vadakkan has joined the BJP.

"Friends, we welcome Tom Vadakkan in BJP. Tom Vadakkan has been a senior leader of the Congress party. He was all-India Secretary of the party as well as the spokesperson. He comes from a Roman Catholic community from Kerala. He has decided to join the BJP after getting impressed by the policy programs of Narendra Modi and equally getting disenchanted by the Congress party. He is most welcomed", said Ravi Shankar Prasad as he inducted the newly-inducted BJP leader.

Tom Vaddakan addressed the media shortly after Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's address and stated:

""Good Afternoon friends. It's like meeting you all again. I have seen you at different situations in the Congress party office and I am back here. It gives me great pleasure to be here. I left Congress, with a heavy heart, because the attack by the Pakistani terrorist on our land and the reaction from Congress party was sad indeed. It hurt me deeply when you question the integrity of the Armed Forces. And that's the precise reason I am here. It not about ideology, it's about love. If a political party take an anti-national stand then Iam left with no option but to leave. You also know the problems. However, this is not the time to comment on this. I am impressed by the polices of Honourable Prime Minister Modi. I also want to add that I have worked for Congress for 20 years. Use and throw phenomenon has started and it is not acceptable for hard-working members. I am thankful to the BJP president who has given me membership and has put trust on me and I am thankful that Prime Minister for wishing me luck", he said after being inducted into the party by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
