Priyanka Gandhi Vadra continues to resist the clamour of rejection even as Mayawati-Akhilesh duo have shaken up the Congress party, first by excluding it from Uttar Pradesh alliance and then by rejecting Rahul Gandhi's offer to field SP-BSP candidates for 7 seats in the state. Mrs. Vadra, who is undertaking a 140 km long 'Ganga-Yatra' on a speed boat, addressed the media after reaching a scheduled halt.
Uttar Pradesh alliance partners BSP’s Mayawati and SP’s Akhilesh, in a strong snub for the Congress, said on Monday that alliance is strong enough to defeat the BJP in politically important Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, however, Priyanka Gandhi is still singing a different song. According to her, the SP-BSP is still fighting with Congress to defeat their 'common' rival: BJP.
"Hum yeh chunav laad rahe hai, akele laad rahe hai. Hume kisisey koi parheez nahi hai. Hum kisiko disturb nahi karna chatey. Humara lakshay hai BJP ko harana. Unka bhi vohi lakshay hai. Toh hum saath satth ekathey laad rahe hai. (We are fighting this election on our own. We are not restricting anyone and we are not here to disturb anyone. Our aim is to defeat BJP and even they (SP-BSP) want to. So, we are fighting together to achieve this", she said.
This statement comes even after the former U.P CM Mayawati lashed out at Congress saying that the there are no chances of an alliance of BSP-SP with Congress in any state of the country. She tweeted:
"The BSP, once again, wants to make it clear that we don't have any synergies or alliance with Congress in Uttar Pradesh or any other part of the country. Our people must not get confused with the misleading information spread by the Congress party".
In another tweet, Mayawati asserted that the Congress is free to contest in all 80 seats in the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections, adding that the BSP-SP combine has enough potential to defeat the BJP in the state. She then asked the Congress to not to mislead the people of Uttar Pradesh by leaving seven seats for the gathbandhan in the state.
The Congress party on Sunday notified that it will not be contesting on Mulayam Singh Yadav's seat Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad, and other crucial seats held by the Mahagatbandhan in Uttar Pradesh.
U.P Congress chief Raj Babbar, while addressing a press briefing had said, "We are leaving 7 seats vacant for SP, BSP, and RLD. These include Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad and whatever seats Mayawati ji and RLD's Jayant ji and Ajit Singh contest from. We will also give two seats to Apna Dal - Gonda and Pilibhit."
