Lok Sabha Polls 2019: BJP again allies with Asom Gana Parishad to fight elections in Assam, announces Ram Madhav

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Tuesday announced that the alliance of BJP and Asom Gana Parishad and are now set to jointly contest in Assam in the upcoming parliament elections along with the Bodoland People's Front forming the third cornerstone of the alliance.

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Tuesday announced that the alliance of BJP and Asom Gana Parishad and are now set to jointly contest in Assam in the upcoming parliament elections along with the Bodoland People's Front forming the third cornerstone of the alliance.

"BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have decided to work together in the coming Parliament election in Assam to defeat Congress. Bodoland People's Front will be the third partner in the alliance", said Madhav, who is also in charge of the Assam BJP.

Candidates will be contesting for 14 constituencies in Assam in the Lok Sabha polls that will be held in the state in three phases beginning April 11 and ending April 23.

Taking to Facebook Ram Madhav shared an elaborated post in which he announced the pre-poll alliance of BJP with multiple regional parties in the North-East to contest elections 2019 order to defeat Congress party at the hustings. 

"The BJP, NPP, NDPP, AGP and BPF will fight together in Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh with the mission of defeating Congress party at the hustings," read the post by the BJP leader. 

"In Tripura, the BJP will fight the elections together with IPFT, our alliance partner. In Sikkim, our alliance will be with SKM, the main Opposition party," he added.

Earlier, a difference emerged between the Asom Gana Parishad and BJP over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

The AGP along with Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and BJP had contested the 2016 Assam Assembly polls and formed the government unseating the Congress that had ruled the state for three consecutive terms since 2001.

The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the dates for the Lok Sabha election 2019. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
