Maha polls: FIR registered against BJP candidate Narendra Mehta

Ahead of the Assembly elections that are set to take place in Maharashtra, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against BJP's Narendra Mehta

Ahead of the Assembly elections that are set to take place in Maharashtra, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Narendra Mehta for putting a poster and banner with his picture inside a Jain temple without prior permission from the Election Commission. The BJP candidate is contesting from Mira-Bhayandar constituency in the Assembly polls this time on a BJP ticket.

FIR registered 

According to the initial details, the FIR has been registered by an election officer heading Elections Commission's flying squad. Earlier on Thursday, the BJP expelled four rebel candidates after they did not take back their nominations against official candidates. Among the names that were expelled from the party include Charan Waghmare from Tumsar, Geeta Jain from Mira-Bhayandar, Dilip Deshmukh from Sumerpur and Balasaheb Namdev Ovhal from Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Single-phase Maharashtra Assembly poll

Maharashtra which has 288 Assembly seats will go to polls on October 21, 2019, the Election Commission announced on September 21. Maharashtra assembly elections will be held in a single-phase and the counting procedure would be conducted on October 24. The Election Commission chief Sunil Arora also announced that the last date of nomination is on October 4. Arora also informed that the parties in Maharashtra had wanted the polls to be concluded by Dhanteras.

  • Issue of notification for both states (Haryana and Maharashtra) - 27 September
  • Last date of nomination - 4 October
  • Scrutiny of nomination -5 October
  • Withdrawal of nomination- 7 October
  • Polling date for both states - 21 October (Single phase)
  • Counting of votes - 24 October
  • Conclusion of polls - 27 October
