Mumbai Police has urged citizens to come out and vote for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra on Monday. Mumbai police are often found spreading awareness about various causes on their twitter handle. This time, they are raising awareness about the importance of voting in elections. In their tweet, they have assured assistance to citizens and requested them to cast their votes.

The Police also tweeted a picture of a few officers showing their fingers marked with the blue ink and said "On duty in time, after fulfilling responsibility."

40,000 police personnel deployed in Mumbai

In the wake of Assembly elections, over 40,000 police personnel have been deployed in Mumbai to ensure safety and security on polling day. Twenty-two companies of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) are deployed all over Mumbai, the Mumbai police spokesperson had said in a statement. Twelve companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) are also deployed. 2,700 home guards are also on the election duty. In various offences connected to the polls, actions were taken against 3,860 people under section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) and against 1,279 people under section 110 of CRPC. According to sources, 270 polling stations have been declared critical. Strong security arrangements have been made for all of these polling stations. 

Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections

In Maharashtra, a total of 8,98,39,600 people, including 4,28,43,635 women, are eligible to vote to elect the 288 members of the Legislative Assembly. As many as 3,237 candidates, including 235 women, are contesting for 288 seats. 96,661 polling booths are in place with 6.5 lakh staff for the voting exercise. Counting for the polls will be held on October 24.
