With the elections nearing, it appears that the bar for politicians' behaviour is being lowered to new levels.
In a shocking statement, Congress' star campaigner Vijaya Shanti on Saturday compared Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of the country, to a terrorist. Her comment has come less than a month since the Pulwama terror attack and subsequent tension between India and Pakistan.
Shanti made the comment in presence of a huge gathering and the president of Congress Rahul Gandhi. She was speaking in Shamshabad in Telangana.
"The Congress and the BJP are at war which means the war has started between Rahul Gandhi and Modi. Modi's goal is autocracy, Rahul's soul is democracy. Rahul is fighting for democracy to live, Modi is killing democracy he wants to trouble people, Modi is ruling like a dictator. He has ruled like a dictator and he wants to dictate the next 5 years. But this time no citizen of India will give him the opportunity. Today, after seeing BJP everybody is scared. It is scary that at which moment Modi will blast which bomb. Modi is looking like a terrorist. Instead of loving people, he is scaring people. This is not a PM's motive, cannot be his motive," she said.
Earlier on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi had also made a controversial statement where he pinned the blame on India for the Pulwama attack.
"Few days ago, CPRF soldiers were martyred in Pulwama. I have a question for the Pradhan Mantri. Who killed the CRPF soldiers? What is the name of the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad. His name is Masood Azhar. PM Modi, who sent Masood Azhar back to Pakistan? Wasn't it the BJP government which sent him to Pakistan in a flight? Wasn't he escorted by Ajit Doval and Jaswant Singh. Did not your people, your ministers send him back to Pakistan from India? Why didn't you say that those responsible for Pulwama were sent back to Pakistan by BJP government? There are pictures of Doval, who is the current NSA, is seen escorting Azhar at Kandahar airport. We are not like Narendra Modi, we don't bow down to terrorists. You explain to the government who took Masood Azhar back to Pakistan," he said.
