'The 14 years Savarkar spent in Jail, Nehru could not have spent 14mins'

Uddhav Thackeray assailed the Congress Party on Rahul Gandhi's comment on Savarkar. Gandhi during a speech in New Delhi insulted Savarkar calling him a 'coward'. Thackeray in his speech said that "Rahul said Savarkar had run away, But what is his state today? Rahul has run away from his responsibilities." Furthermore, Thackeray highlighted on Savarkar's struggle and said that Nehru couldn't have survived in jail as Savarkar did.

"The 14 years Savarkar spent in Jail, Nehru could not have spent 14 mins'.

However, this is not the first time that Thackray took a dig at the Congress for insulting Savarkar. Recently, Thackeray also said that “People who don't believe in Veer Savarkar must be beaten in public because they won't realize the struggle and importance of Veer Savarkar in India's independence. Even Rahul Gandhi has insulted Veer Savarkar in the past.” Speaking at the launch of a book, Thackeray said that he would not discredit the work done by Mahatma Gandhi and India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the development of the country's politics but there is more to politics than just two families. "I'd have called Nehru as Veer (brave) if he had survived jail for 14 minutes against Savarkar who stayed in prison for 14 long years," he added.
