Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav met with Congress Delhi chief Sheila Dikshit at her residence on Wednesday, with just days to go till the start of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections 2019. While he said that the meeting was for personal reasons, according to sources, Yadav is seeking a Congress ticket from the North East Delhi constituency seat in order to contest against BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari.

In 2014, Jai Prakash Aggarwal fought from the North East Delhi constituency for the Congress but Manoj Tiwari had emerged victorious with almost six lakh votes in comparison to Aggarwal's 2.14 lakh votes. The Congress actually finished third, below the AAP's candidate Professor Anand Kumar who secured 4.5 lakh votes.

Rajpal Yadav's intent to contest the elections on a Congress ticket comes amid a hectic weeks-long back-and-forth between the AAP and the Congress over forming an alliance for Delhi's seven Lok Sabha seats, which were all swept by the BJP in 2014.

Although an official announcement is as yet awaited from both the parties' respective leaderships, Arvind Kejriwal has been pitching for an alliance in the National Capital for a long time. However, Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit and Congress president Rahul Gandhi have at different points been against the alliance.

Coming back to Rajpal Yadav, the actor came out of prison late February after serving a sentence in a case of non-repayment of a loan. He said that he is healed, happy and excited to go back to a film set and start shooting all over again.

It was in November 2018 that the Delhi High Court sentenced him to three months in prison for non-repayment of a loan of Rs 5 crore that his company took to produce a film in 2010.

"I think the law is equal for everyone and no one is immune from the law of the nation, the legal system. So I followed the court's decision as a law-abiding citizen," Rajpal said.

"I think I trusted a few people who later misused my trust. But I do not want to comment much on that. I want to move forward as I know life has a lot to offer," he added.
