Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack at the Congress party saying that the party has been disrespectful of the armed forces and ignored the defence sector not only during its tenure in the government, but in the years as well.
In his latest blog on Wednesday titled 'Institutional respect and Institutional contempt - two contrasting approaches', PM Modi said that the Congress party has always seen the defence forces as a 'source of income' as a result of which the armed forces never got the respect from the Grand Old party in the country that they deserved.
"Congress has always seen the defence sector as a source of income which is why the armed forces never got the respect from the Congress that they deserved," he wrote in the blog.
Later, speaking about the several defence scams under the UPA regime since 1947, PM Modi stated that Congress began from jeeps and then moved to guns, submarines and helicopters.
"After 1947, every Congress government has seen multiple defence scams. They began with jeeps and then moved to guns, submarines and helicopters."
This is not the first time PM Modi lashed out at the previous Congress governments for being involved in several scams related to the defence sector. "From the seas to the skies, the Congress has several scams associated with the defence sector, and in the process, the party did not allow the modernisation of defence forces for years they were in power," PM Modi had earlier said at a rally in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur in February.
In the light of the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper case Christian Michel naming Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as "Mrs Gandhi" and "the son of the Italian lady" respectively in ED custody, PM Modi further wrote: 'Every middleman is linked to one family.'
Calling out the Congress leaders for insulting the Armed forces on several accounts, PM Modi later writes:
"When a top Congress leader calls the Army Chief a Gunda and is subsequently promoted in the party rank and file, it shows their scant regard for the forces.
Congress leader and Delhi party chief Sheila Dikshit's son Sandeep Dikshit has likened Army Chief General Bipin Rawat to a "goon on the street" or "sadak ka gunda" in 2017.
He went onto hit out at the Congress leaders for questioning the IAF's airstrike wherein the Indian forces destroyed the biggest JeM terror camps in Pakistan's Balakot region in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred. He wrote:
"When our forces strike at terrorist elements, Congress leaders accuse the political leadership of doing ‘Khoon Ki Dalali.’
When our air warriors strike at terrorists, Congress questions that too."
