Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019, BJP party president Amit Shah interacted with Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on Day 2 of the Republic Summit 2018 in Mumbai on Wednesday, responding to an array of issues. On being questioned about the seat predictions for the BJP party in the 2019 polls with the party and NDA, and about the rumours of him fixing a vote share target for the BJP, Mr Shah said:
"On seats, I can only say once alliances are formed. But I can say that with the existing seats, the NDA and BJP, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, will make an even bigger gain and come back into power with a full majority. We are the fastest-growing major economy. We have strengthened national security. The standard of living in the country has been improved, which was not there for the past 70 years. Many things have been done that are transformational, and most importantly, the scale of thinking has changed under PM Modi."
Speaking on the theme 'Consensus Possible?' at the Republic Summit, he went onto state that under the governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is not only progressive development in the country but people's perspective have also largely extended:
"Before, we used to concentrate on small gains. Under PM Modi, we focus on eliminating problems entirely. We have provided the people with electricity and toilets during our governance. Most importantly, we have changed the perspective of the people in the country. We have worked without any allegation over corruption in our governance. This will continue beyond 2019. There's been no case of corruption, and the PM hasn't taken a single day off. He's worked as a visionary. Under his leadership, India has become a leader at the global level."
Later, the BJP president asserted that the NDA and BJP will return with full majority in the upcoming elections:
"I believe that the 2019 elections will be fought on these lines. The BJP believes that the country needs a strong government. We will not ignore the problems and will work to solve the problems ahead and after the 2019 elections. Both NDA and BJP will return with a full majority. We are all fortunate that a popular leader like Narendra Modi is leading us."
With the Lok Sabha polls inching closer, political parties are gearing up to put their best foot forward. Where in the last four years politics has become much more polarised, BJP and NDA have shown strengths towards consensus in Surging India.
