Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to several celebrities across domains urging them to create voter awareness. In a series of Tweets, the country chief asked several actors from the Bollywood film fraternity to come forward and help bring more people out to vote. He addressed a recent Tweet to 'Andaz Apna Apna' duo Aamir Khan and Salman Khan and asked them to inspire and motivate youth.
Drawing reference to the film, in the post, he wrote, "Voting is not only a right but it’s also a duty. Dear @BeingSalmanKhan and @aamir_khan, It is time to inspire and motivate youth in your own Andaz to vote so that we can strengthen Apna Democracy & Apna country."
Here's the post:
This comes barely four weeks ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, scheduled on April 11. Previously, PM Modi posted a blog in which he made “four requests for democracy” and said the election is an “occasion for celebration” while asserting that “not voting causes great anguish”.
“Would you want a situation where something happens in the country that you disapprove of and you are forced to think - because I did not go vote that day, this unfortunate situation has arisen and the nation is suffering,” The Prime Minister said in his blog.
He further talked about how people connect themselves with the country’s dreams and aspirations by voting and advised: “Spare yourself from that regret and go vote.”
The “four requests”, as put out by PM Modi, are for the eligible voters to get themselves registered, make sure their names figure in the list of electoral rolls, plan their voting schedule to make sure they use franchise and to mobilise friends and families to vote in large numbers.
