After Republic TV and OpIndia published a report which discloses a possible connection between arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari and the Congress president Rahul Gandhi citing land purchase agreements that bear Gandhi's name, BJP made a sensational attack on Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.
Republic TV and OpIndia had jointly published a report on suspicious land deals which were made through HL Pahwa who is on CC Thampi's payroll. Thampi is a man closely connected to both Bhandari and Gandhi's brother-in-law Robert Vadra.
Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani spoke about the matter in a news briefing on Thursday demanding Gandhi come clean about his links with Sanjay Bhandari and CC Thampi.
"In the past 24 hours, the facts that have come out in news, indicate how Gandhi-Vadra family has been flourishing dynastic politics. News reports have suggested that HL Pahwa was suitably financed and supported by CC Thampi. Investigations have found money trail between CC Thampi and HL Pahwa amounting to Rs 54 crore.
"CC Thampi's friendship with Robert Vadra and arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari has been established. This proves that in a defence deal during the UPA government, Sanjay Bhandari and CC Thampi were connected. CC Thampi is a name that figures in probe with regard to not only a petroleum deal under UPA but also financial violation with regard to land transaction in Delhi NCR amounting to Rs 280 crore.
"Sanjay Bhandari, an arms dealer with close links to Robert Vadra is also under investigation for defence deals and his desperate desire to be a party to the ill-gotten fruits of corruption during UPA regime.
"The new facts which have come to the fore clearly establish a relationship between Rahul Gandhi and arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. Hence his interest in the defence preparation of our country stems not only from individual politics but his personal commercial interests, his personal family interests. Rahul Gandhi is the real face of graft. What is the personal relationship he shares with CC Thampi and how is the land which he owns is funded by the arms dealer?"
