In the race up to the General Elections 2019, Republic Bharat's sting operation brought to the electorate 3 MPs from 3 different parties in 3 states (Bihar, UP, Punjab) with one common takeaway: admissions on hidden camera about a hefty price list for favours and votes in election season.
Taking cognisance of the investigation conducted by Republic Bharat Narendra Tomar Parliamentary Affairs Minister has commended the effort and accentuated on the need to bind by 'rules and discipline'
He said, "I don't know about the sting. If anyone has done this, then it's commendable. It's our duty to work for people without any profit. We have to keep ourself bound with some rules and discipline. We have to understand our responsibility. We have to live for people, don't have to see the profit for ourself."
The impact of the sting tapes has even reached the Election Commission, who would be responding to the expose.
The sting of three MPs from three different parties have made a few revelations:
Ram Kumar Sharma, an RLSP MP from Sitamarhi constituency, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, a Congress MP from Jalandhar and Harinarayan Rajbhar, a BJP MP from Ghosi, U.P, all three MPs stung were willing to put a price on their constituencies, staining the sanctity of democracy
Republic Bharat has put out tapes of a sitting RLSP MP Ram Kumar Sharma who talks of taking alternate routes to funding the MP ahead of elections and says, “You can send through hoondi (hawala)” indicating some parliamentarians have reduced our democracy a means for hawala funding.
BJP MP Harinarayan Rajbhar apart from cash was caught asking favours including 'political campaigns, cars and petrol' saying, "Why do we need cash? We need is a promotion of campaigns, travel, petrol expenses. These are the things where we could use the help. Are you understanding what I'm saying?”
The stung Congress MP Santokh Singh Choudhary fearing an online transaction said, "The process of procurement has become digital, which is why no one wants to take a risk. This has become risky now."
