West Bengal Mamata Banerjee announced that her party Trinamool Congress will give 41% seats to women candidates for the Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday.

She said that she convinced her party workers to reserve seats for women. She added that Moon Moon Sen will contest from Asansol, Satabdi Roy will contest from Birbhum.

Attacking the BJP, she declared that the last day of polling will signal an end of the Modi sarkar. She also said that the party has done "black magic on the country"

"May 19 (last day of the polls) will sound the death knell for the Modi sarkar. They have done a kind of black magic in this country. My only challenge is to remove Modi sarkar. On May 19, its one foot will be in the coffin," she said.

However, her party suffered a major setback earlier on Tuesday as TMC MP Anupam Hazra joined the BJP, sources said. The young MP from Bolpur was at one point was very close to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the sources added.

Sources have said that two sitting MLAs will also join BJP. Sources added that those leaving TMC have claimed that due to the anarchy and corruption in the state.

The deflection by Hazra is crucial for the BJP as it is yet to make a mark in one of the biggest states in the Lok Sabha polls.

Here is the list of candidates contesting from the TMC:

On March 10, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced 33 per cent quota for women in the allocation of Lok Sabha tickets of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party.

Addressing the Women Self Help Group's (SHGs) Conclave under 'Mission Shakti', Patnaik said, "I would like to announce here at Kendrapara, the 'karma bhoomi' of legendary Biju Babu, that Odisha will send 33 per cent women to Parliament in the coming elections."

He added, "The women of Odisha will lead the way in women empowerment in India. If India is to lead the world if India is to be an advanced nation like America and China, then women empowerment is the only answer," he added.

In December last year, Patnaik had also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate the move to ensure one-third reservation for women in Parliament and State legislatures. In 2011, the Odisha government had also enhanced the reservation for women in Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies to 50 per cent.
