Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2019, Prime Minister Modi accompanied with his Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani and chief minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the crowd in Amethi, a strong constituency of the Nehru-Gandhi family since 1980.
In the constituency of Rahul Gandhi, where Irani contested against him in 2014 but lost by 1,07,923 votes, Prime Minister Modi lauded the initiative 'sabka saath sabka vikas' calling it the 'mantra of BJP'.
He said, "In 2014 during the election, we had said 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas'. Amethi is an example of our mantra 'Sabka Saat sabka vikas'. When we speak of 'sabka saath sabka vikas', I have said this before and I reiterate, for those who voted us they are our people and even those who did not vote for us are ours. For those who gave us the seat that area is ours and for those who did not give us a seat, that area is ours too."
While pitching for his Union Minister, PM Modi said that Smriti Irani came in the constituency as a new face but within the last five years has worked more than the elected leader.
He said, "After 5 years, in front of the citizens of Amethi, very proudly I say that Smriti Irani came as a candidate in front of you all. That was a new face, a new personality for you, but you extended a lot of blessings. Although we did not win the elections back then but we were successful in winning your heart."
"You gave us so much love that Smriti has worked in his area and never did she let you feel that you have made her lose or win. She worked more than the one who has won," he added.
After losing by a mere 12.32% margin, PM Modi asked the gathered crowd if they were satisfied with the leadership.
He said, "I'd like to ask the people of Amethi if they are happy with us? Did we show concern for you? Did we do justice? This is our 'sabka saath sabka vikas' mantra"
