In her first-ever speech since officially joining politics, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra set the record straight with a short address at a rally in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Tuesday.
The younger of the Gandhi siblings, who was in January appointed as the Congress' General Secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East), demanded the people of this country to vote carefully on issues which matter, and pay no heed to unwanted issues.
In the presence of her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, she expressed her satisfaction coming to Gujarat for the first time and visiting the Sabarmati Ashram, from where Mahatma Gandhi began his Dandi march.
Priyanka then shifted her attention to the upcoming elections which is less than a month away by stating that country is presently going a tough time under the BJP regime and what people should do to secure their future.
"Your vote is a weapon, but it is a weapon through which no one should be hurt or wounded. It is a weapon which we make the people strong. People have to deeply think about what they are going to choose. They are going to choose their future. Unwanted issues should not be raised, but only the issues like jobs for youths, women empowerment, farmer issues should be raised," she said.
She then demanded answers from the BJP government, asking the citizens of India to question those in power about the promises they made during the previous elections.
"Please think a lot before taking the decision. The leaders who talk a lot, make promises, ask them questions. Ask where are the 2 crore jobs promised. Ask them where is the Rs 15 lakh in your account. The ones who spoke about the safety of women, ask them if they did anything in the last five years. Ask the right questions. In the next two months, several unwanted issues will be raised. But your awareness will make this country. This is your responsibility. The love for your nation should be seen from here. From the land where Gandhi ji raised the voice against hatred, I would like people to raise their voice against those who talk about the nature of the nation," Priyanka Gandhi added.
The top leadership of Congress including party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat on Tuesday morning.
