Kerala Weather Forecast: Most Districts To Get Relief From Heavy Rainfall, August 20 Onwards

The Kerala floods have till date claimed more than 300 lives, disrupting normal life from the face of the state. Several thousand are still stranded at their house, while several others have taken refuge at relief camps set across the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kerala on Friday to conduct an aerial survey of the state. 

On Saturday evening, the Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan announced that heavy rainfalls are to be expected in 11 districts of the state. 

According to the weather forecast for the next five days, the rains are likely to go from heavy to moderate.

Thiruvananthapuram is likely to receive moderate rainfall from August 18, whereas the district of Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha are likely to receive heavy rainfall until August 20. 

Even though Idukki and Ernakulam are still under red alert, the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce from August 20 onwards. same is applied for Kottayam and Thrissur. 

The districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and  Palakkad are most likely to heave a relief from August 20 onwards when light showers are expected. 

The Northern districts of Kannur and Kasargode are most likely to face only light showers from August 19 onwards.  

 

Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced that the state has suffered a loss of around Rs. 20 crores. The Centre on Saturday had announced an immediate relief amount of Rs. 500 crore to the state. Several state governments have also come out in support of the flood-hit state of Kerala. The state of Haryana and Bihar have announced  Rs. 10 crore relief fund for the state, while Odisha Government of Rs. 5 crores relief fund. 

Meanwhile, several relief operations are taking place. The Army, Navy, Air Force and Coastal guard are supporting the NDRF in carrying out rescue operations. 

The Kodagu district of Karnataka adjoining to Kerala has also been affected severely due to floods. As per weather reports next 24-48 hours will be crucial for this Karnataka district. Respite from rains is expected from August 20 onwards.
