After facing severe criticism over Hindu terror episode in her American TV series Quantico, actor Priyanka Chopra has issued an apologised. Issuing an apology on Twitter, the actor said the she is a proud Indian and was sorry for hurting the sentiments of her fans.
“I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I'm a proud Indian and that will never change,” tweeted Priyanka Chopra.
Earlier, after the Hindu terror episode in Quantico triggered a row, U.S. television studio ABC issued an official apology.
In a statement quoted by foreign news agency, Walt Disney-owned ABC stated:
“The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it. The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone.”
However, ABC’s apology failed to pacify the fringe as Hindu Sena’ organized protests against Chopra for “degrading Hindus as terrorists and saying India sponsors terror to “frame” Pakistan.”
A press release issued by the fringe group stated:
“If she cannot speak good about India and Hindus, she shouldn’t speak negative. Being a professional actor, she always had a chance to refuse to act in the scene or get the offensive dialogues referring to Hindus and India as terrorists modified, but she chose to ignore and shoot the scenes as they have come out in public, showing her disrespect to Sovereignty of India and Indians… Hindu Sena appeals to public in general to boycott any work, ads or movies of Priyanka Chopra and appeal to Indian government to strip her of Indian citizenship and deny her entry in India.”
As per reports, the controversial episode showed Chopra holding up sacred Hindu prayer beads as evidence that the plotter in the episode, planning to detonate a nuclear bomb in New York, was an Indian nationalist After the latest episode aired. The global actress faced massive criticism for the scene with some of her followers even threatening to boycott her work and the brands that she has been endorsing. Some others even called on the government to black out the controversial scenes in the episode.
