Amid the ongoing unrest over the construction of Ram Mandir on the disputed land of Ram Janmabhoomi dispute in Ayodhya, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has triggered yet another controversy, targeting the BJP and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, arguing that the discussion on the Ram Temple's construction has come at a time when the elections are coming and claiming that their aim is to create ‘controversy’ around the Ram temple construction.
"It is amusing how only when the time of elections is around the corner, the discussion on construction of Ram Mandir has come forward. A Ram Mandir must be constructed, no one has any objections to it, we all want it to happen. But even Lord Ram would not want a Ram Temple at the disputed site. It is surprising that the government has maintained that it will follow what the court has said, while the UP Chief Minister said that temple will be built if Lord Ram will desire it to happen, and then government officials are saying that an ordinance should be passed. Their only aim is to create a controversy around Ram Mandir,” former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh said during a rally in the poll-bound state.
Retaliating to Digvijaya Singh’s remarks against the BJP, senior leader Dr Subramanian Swamy stated that ‘Digvijaya Singh has committed so many sins such that he doesn’t know what Lord Ram would want’:
“Digvijaya has committed so many sins. I doubt he knows what Ram would have thought. Only people with pure hearts who meditated with Ram know what he wants. If at all one can do that kind of strict meditation. The fact of the matter is yes there maybe some people who may raise it during elections because what happens is that Congress party raises - you promised Ram Mandir what happened? It was in the manifesto of the BJP and I did file a petition. Right from day 1, first on the amenities of the pilgrims who are coming for the makeshift which exist there. Then finally I moved a petition because the Allahabad High Court appeal was not listed. So, I wanted a date fixed for that,” said Dr Swamy speaking to the reporter.
Adding to the remarks of BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy, GVL Narasimha Rao also hit back at the senior Congress leader stating that Congress have always opposed the construction of Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya, terming Digvijaya Singh and Congress president Rahul Gandhi as “pseudo-Hindus” and “non-Hindus”.
"Lord Rama would be very unhappy knowing that there are pseudo-Hindus like Digvijaya Singh, non-Hindus like Rahul Gandhi who are pretending to be the voice of Lord Ram. The reality is that the Congress party has always opposed the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. Digvijaya Singh should understand. This is not a disputed site. The construction of Ram Temple will take place at the birthplace of Lord Ram. Just because some invaders came and occupied that place and constructed an illegal mass which became a disputed structure. The dispute was about the structure that was built. This place is the birthplace of Lord Ram and a grand temple for Lord Ram existed on the very site, was found by the archeological survey of India,” said Narasimha Rao.
The Supreme Court on Monday declined early hearing of petitions in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case. A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul said it had already listed the appeals before the appropriate bench in January.
