After the RSS, the VHP has mounted pressure on the government on the Ram Mandir issue days before the Dharma Sansad event on January 31, 2019 where organisation will be consulting with religious leaders before deciding on Temple issue.
On January 19, 2019, the VHP'S international working president Alok Kumar in Prayagraj had said that the organisation will consider supporting Congress if it includes issues of Ram Janmbhoomi in their manifesto.
"We will consider supporting Congress if it includes the issues of Ram Janmbhoomi in their manifesto, we would be happy if all parties support the issue of Ram Temple," he said.
A day later on Alok Kumar said his statement was misunderstood and that he said that he will welcome Congress and any other party which will have the Ram Mandir issue in its manifesto.
"VHP believes Ram is a national issue. We will consider supporting the Congress if it includes the issue of Ram Janmbhoomi in their manifesto, we would be happy if all parties support the issue of Ram Temple. I want to clarify that VHP is not thinking of supporting any parties. The parties are free to support Hindutva ideologies," he said.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had upped the ante in its efforts to build the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, with its general secretary Bhaiyaji Joshi on Friday saying that the existence of temple in Ayodhya will help the nation develop and prosper for at least 150 years while also stating that the temple's construction begin now so it is ready by 2025.
At the present moment, the case pertaining to Ram Janmabhoomi is sub judice, with the Supreme Court to decide on January 29 regarding the schedule of the hearing of the case.
While the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, has stated that it will wait for court's order before taking the next step.
