An elderly couple has sued their own son for abandoning them and becoming a Sanyasi. A family court in Ahmedabad recently ordered a son to pay Rs 10,000 monthly maintenance to his parents as he left them and became a Sanyasi. The court concluded by stating that it’s the responsibility of a son to maintain his parents after a certain age and that he cannot escape for his true responsibility.

'Pay Rs 50,000 as maintenance'

Dharmesh Gol, the son of the elderly couple, became a Sanyasi (a monk) soon after completing his master’s degree in pharmacy, but went on to serve an NGO soon after quitting a job that paid him Rs 60,000 a month. Recently his parents took the case to the court, sued him and demanded him to give them Rs 50,000 as maintenance. As his parents are physically disabled, they do not have any other source of income.
