The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has decided to dissolve all district committees of Congress in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, June 24. This development comes after the party suffered a massive poll debacle in the Lok Sabha elections. The party general secretary of UP East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also held meetings to analyse the reason for its defeat.
According to a press release, a two-member team will oversee election preparations and management in all seats of the Vidhan Sabha in UP east and west. In addition, a three-member disciplinary team will be formed to examine and address the complaints of gross indiscipline that occurred in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The AICC has also decided to appoint Ajay Kumar Lallu as the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) for a defined period to make organizational changes in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. However, the leader for the western part has not been decided yet.
"AICC has approved the following proposals submitted by the General Secretaries in UP East and West," said the statement issued by AICC.
Here's a picture of the press release signed by General Secretary of the AICC K C Venugopal:
Last week, Congress had dissolved its unit in Karnataka while retaining its president and working president. Tensions within the Karnataka Congress unit have grown amid the reports of differences over the functioning of the Congress-JD(S) government in the state.
The decision has been taken amidst the uncertainty of Rahul Gandhi continuing as the party president. Gandhi had offered to quit during the Congress Working Committee meeting on May 25. However, a unanimous refusal rejected Rahul Gandhi's proposal. Party workers and leaders are still holding on to hopes that Gandhi will continue to lead the party as the 'Nehru-Gandhi' family is the holding pillar for the Congress Party.
Moreover, there have been demands from UP Congress leaders for the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Congress face in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, amid the 'resignation drama' by Rahul Gandhi.
