Ajit Doval: Seas are most important for nations' cooperation, growth

The National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Friday, while inaugurating the second edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) at Naval War College in Goa, stated that "Seas are going to be the most important area of nations' mutual cooperation, economic development, and tackling possible threats." He further added that “We are all important stakeholders in the Indian Ocean Region and Pacific as these two areas are both contentious and also offer great opportunities.” The NSA addressed the crowd at the GMC and the Spokesperson of the Indian Navy tweeted about his address. 

The event

According to reports, while addressing the second edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC), NSA Ajit Doval focused on the importance of multilateral trade through the sea. He also focused on the strategic cooperation between the nations. Apart from him, the Indian Navy Chief Admiral, Karambir Singh was also present at the event. Along with this, the other dignitaries who also attended the event were Heads of Maritime Agencies of Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Seychelles, Mauritius, Singapore, and Malaysia.

About GMC

The second edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) is a two-day event that will conclude on October 5. According to news reports, the focus of the event is to build capacity among the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) navies and to tackle possible threats. It also focuses on trade and cooperation among nations. Further reports stated that the theme for the conclave is "Common Maritime Priorities in Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and need for Regional Maritime Strategy." The first edition of the GMC was held in 2017.
